south of the border, down Mexico way (down Mexico way).

2. She was a picture in old Spanish lace (in old Spanish lace),

just for a tender while, I kissed a smile upon her face,

’cause it was fiesta, and we were so gay,

C Em - Dm G C F C

south of the border, down Mexico way (down Mexico way).

C G

Then she sighed as she whispered manjana,

G7 C

never dreaming that we were parting.

And I lied as a whispered manjana,

C G C

for our tomorrow never came.

there in a veil of white, by candle light she knelt to pray.

The mission bells told me that I mustn’t stay,

C Em - Dm G C F C

south of the border, the Mexico way (the Mexico way).
